HTML Author comes equipped with default PageMaker styles that it assigns to each of the functional styles that are part of HTML. These style mappings enable you to set up a PageMaker publication that will look similar on standard HTML browsers after it is exported as HTML. At the same time, the Style pop-up menus on the Preferences pane enable you to customize how each of your PageMaker styles is to be interpreted when exporting HTML. Just choose an HTML style from the left menu, then choose a PageMaker style to associate with it in the right menu. Do this for each of the HTML styles that you want to customize.
Hyperlinks are also recognized by their style attributes when HTML is exported, and there are color and text style options available on the Preferences pane for this purpose. IT IS IMPORTANT THAT YOU CHOOSE A HYPERLINK FORMAT DISTINCT FROM THE REMAINDER OF THE TEXT IN WHICH IT RESIDES, OR LINKS MAY BE LOST.
Hyperlinks can occasionaly become corrupt. Some of the information used to uniquely identify your links can be lost if, for example, you accidentally delete an anchor that is the destination of a hyperlink, type new text in the middle of hyperlink text, cut and paste text containing a hyperlink, or apply the link format to non-linked text.
Use the Automatically Verify Links checkbox to choose between showing hyperlinks without verification (faster) or verifying every link before showing it on the Edit Links pane (more accurate). In either case, links are always verified when exporting HTML, so this preference does not affect the HTML you generate with HTML Author. If you select the checkbox periodically, you will stay informed as to whether HTML Author is having any trouble recognizing some of your links. Look for question marks in the relevant columns of the lists on the Edit Links page. If you see a question mark, we recommend that you delete or modify the link to ensure the accuracy of exported link information.
